Who is the author behind A Bite of Joy?
My name is Katharina Sucita, 33 years old, and residing in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, whereby from 8 years old we moved to different countries. I grew up as an introverted, shy child who had always turned to food for comfort.
My Early Unhealthy Relationship with Food and How I Became a Professional Chef.
I had years of an unhealthy relationship with food which turned my late teens and early 20s into an eating disorder – such as bulimia. When I was 21, I received a phone call that my Dad had passed away on a church trip in China. I had gone to his cemetery within 4 days, and I realized in that grieving period that I had always been passionate about food.
I dropped out of University in the following months and enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu, one of most recognized Culinary schools in Canada and in the world. Since then, I had been working as a Professional Chef for over the past 12 years both in Montreal and Vancouver, which consisted ranging from bistros, award-winning fine dining restaurants, and as well a Private Chef for a millionaire household that focused on delicious food with weight loss goals in mind. My profession in culinary had enabled me to channel my obsessive unhealthy relationship with food into a healthier one – by cooking for others that I was spreading my definition of love.
Putting Self-Love in Priority Before My Obsession with Food.
Over the years, my eating disorder slowly healed, improving my self-confidence, self-image and, most importantly, self-love. Self-love means taking care of my body and my mind. I then decided that I could be a healthy individual without sacrificing being a foodie, which was rooted all my life. I wish to inspire those struggling with balanced eating that we can be BOTH healthy, fit and lean, and at the same time ENJOY delicious food. That means putting Your Self-Love (Mentally, Physically and Psychologically) FIRST and then, secondly, Your Love for delicious food. I hope that through the healthy, delicious recipes I share here in this blog, I can assist, guide and inspire you through this journey, in whatever small or big way. That is my mission.
Weight Loss, Food and My Purpose for A Bite of Joy.
During my early eating disorder years, I created a Facebook group “WEIGHT LOSS SUPPORT GROUP” for the simple reason that I needed support to lose weight. Today, this 16 years old group has over 187,000+ members and has become top-ranking on Google, and one of the largest weight loss groups on Facebook. If you are curious about joining our weight loss community, you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/8020747380
I decided to create this blog to share the culinary skills that I had learned over the years, with weight loss goals in mind, so that others can also be at a healthy weight without sacrificing their love for food. I truly believe that it does not have to be one way or the other – that we do not have to always be clean eating to have a healthy weight – nor do we have to be overweight to be a foodie. This is where A Bite of Joy is born. It is the idea that we get to enjoy eating good delicious food while also being able to balance our mental and physical health as well.
I will be sharing on this website and my other social media platforms on basics of cooking, cooking tips, culinary tips and tricks, healthy delicious meals with healthy substitution ingredients in mind to keep the calories lower, and nutrition higher while having a delicious end product that you and your family or friends can enjoy.
I hope to share what I know and I hope that I can make a difference and add value to your life! 🙂
