Ingredients

  • 2 cups Fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ pc lemon juice and zest
  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions

  • Rinse the blueberries if it is fresh, or defroze frozen bluebrries to ensure even cooking and add them to a small saucepan.
  • Add water, lemon juice and zest, and honey to the saucepan and stir until well combined.
  • Place the saucepan over high heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the blueberries have burst and the mixture has thickened.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the compote cool to room temperature.
  • Transfer the compote to a jar or container and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes

  • The compote will thicken further as it cools, so don't worry if it seems a little runny while it's still hot.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend the compote in a food processor or blender before transferring it to a jar.
  • If you're using frozen blueberries, make sure they're fully thawed before making the compote to ensure even cooking.
  • The compote can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of sweetener to suit your personal taste.
  • Stir occasionally while the compote is simmering to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • For an extra burst of flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract to the compote while it's simmering.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or halved depending on your needs.
